BREA Aquatics Dominates CIF Finals

BREA Aquatics swimmers accounted for 4 individual titles and all three relay wins at the recently completed CIF Division II Girls Swimming Championships. Gretchen Jaques and Andrea Grant led the way with two wins apiece. Gretchen finished first in the 200 IM and 100 Breast, both in CIF record time. The 200 IM was also an SCS record. Her times of 1:57.91 and 1:00.03 were the fastest by a Southern California swimmer this year. Andrea Grant won both the 50 Freestyle (23.48) and the 100 Freestyle (50.87), which was also a Junior National qualifying time. Andrea teamed up with fellow BREA swimmers Christina Vu, Emily Yu, and Tiffany Hsu to win the 200 Freestyle relay. Gretchen teamed with Courtney McCadden and sister Ellie Jaques to win both the 200 Medley and 400 Freestyle relays.

BREA swimmers also scoring in the finals were: Michele Kee, 50 Freestyle (3rd)- 100 Freestyle (6th); Ashley Tse, 200 IM (6th)-100 Breast (4th); Emily Yu, 100 Fly (4th)-100 Breast (3rd); Courtney McCadden, 100 Breast (6th); Christina Vu, 200 Freestyle (14th)-100 Freestyle (12th); Mabel Wong, 100 Breast (14th); Tiffany Hsu, 50 Freestyle (12th); Alyssa Tenney, 100 Backstroke (14th).

BOYS CIF Finalists

Freshman Jake Smith finaled in his first ever CIF Championship swim meet, placing 8th in the 500 Freestyle at the CIF Division IV Championships. He swam a lifetime best 5:12.74 to qualify for the finals. Sophomore Carson May placed in the finals in both of his events at the Division II CIF Boys Championships. Carson swam lifetime bests to finish 13th in the 200 Freestyle and 12th in the 500 Freestyle.
